As the holiday season comes around I get to thinking about how good the Lord is. But first I was depressed. I’m far from family, my friends all had their own plans, and I was alone. I mean my church had a somewhat pulpit thanksgiving meal, in which I enjoyed the company of my church friends and spoke to a few new people. But a bit of gloom hung over me. Then I was watching Sight and Sound’s biblical musicals. Sight and Sound
I saw Ruth, Joseph, and Jonah. The movies hit me hard. I was reminded of God’s love and faithfulness. And they all ended with a tie in to Jesus. It was beautiful. I told God whatever His will, it’s ok. Then my dad called inviting me to thanksgiving with him and his in laws.
So I’m not alone after all. And you don’t have to be either. Just call on Christ.
Modesty is something that has to be addressed.
One definition of modesty is the behavior, manner, or appearance intended to avoid impropriety or indecency.
plural noun: modesties
“modesty forbade her to undress in front of so many people”
synonyms: unpretentiousness, simplicity, plainness
“the modesty of his home”
What are examples of modesty? Well in the 50s, girls had the finger length test in school. The girls had to put their arms down their sides and if their skirt or dress was shorter than their fingertips they had to go home. That may or may not have been extreme. It depends on who you ask.
There are plenty of women walking around with skirts or dresses shorter then that but they wear leggings underneath as if it would make it more modest. Some women even wear leggings to wear with tips alone! As if the leggings were pants. It is incredibly unflattering and immodest (I will not show an example to spare you).
Modesty is not hiding your beauty but saving it.
Modesty makes you feel good about yourself. People are judging you on the content of your character.
Don’t be afraid. Be modest!
Christianity is hard. People have fought and died over it. Nowadays (at least in the free countries) you’ll just argue over it. People argue whether a certain passage is for today or not, whether scripture is divinely inspired, and other things. But what does God say?
“But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.”2 Timothy 2:23 KJV
Avoid dumb questions because you know they begin fights.
But it is better to have the truth most of all.
“The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord’s anointed.” 1 Samuel 26:23 KJV
We will get our heavenly rewards if we run the race to completion.
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”
Hebrews 12:1 KJV
“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”
Proverbs 28:20 KJV
“Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Revelation 2:10 KJV
So as long as we have the Truth, and keep it to the end, we will be with Christ.
Do you love? Of course you do. You have your mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers and husbands and wives. You have your whole family and friends. You love them all. Why do you love? Scriptures are very clear on this. It talks about love all the time.
Who else can talk about love than he who created it?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 KJV
The apostle Luke tells us how we should love one another, even our enemies and even lend to them without expecting anything in return.
“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”
Luke 6:35 KJV
Your love can’t be fake.
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Romans 12:9
God IS love.
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.”
1 John 4:7-12 KJV
And the best kind of love.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13 KJV
So I urge all my fellow Christians to love. Love yourself, love your neighbors, love you enemies, and love God.
I long to live in Lancaster where the dandelions grow,
To grin and wave and say “hi” to everyone I know.
To live in peace upon the land that’s blessed by many people,
To go to church on Sunday morn, the one with the big steeple.
I love to breathe in the fresh air and look upon the streams,
Like in Ruth’s day when she had just enough corn to glean.
Until that day that the Lord shall place me in that higher place,
I shall be his handmaiden to live in peace and grace.
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 KJV
These verses are about being together with unbelievers. You shouldn’t marry one is what most people say verse 14 means. Being “unequally yoked”. To yoke means to fasten, attach, join. So to not be unequally joined together.
When one is married they say “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
Mark 10:9 KJV
But I think it can go deeper than that. Are all your friends unbelievers? Do you hang with the “wrong crowd”? Could your souls tie with the wrong type of people based on what you do?
What is a soul tie?
A soul tie is an emotional bond or connection that unites you with someone else. You can become bound to a person through your soul.
You have to pray to God to release your soul ties.
When the Bible says be ur separate, it means it. We are to separate ourselves from these sinners by not hanging out with them except for the sole reason of teaching them about Christ and trying to free their souls.
Jesus did not hang out with sinners. He taught them. He corrected them. He rebuked them. We should do the same.
You would not say these things to me even though I’m born again because you know my history and when my sins began. If I was born plain, you see, you would have more respect for me. But because I’m just like you, you treat me as anyone would do.
I’m here to tell you I’m not the same
as you would think, I’m solely plain.
My thoughts are on heaven above
What pleases Him my heavenly love
So next time think before you speak
I’m strong in Him I am not weak.
I just got into an argument about voting on Facebook. Someone dear to me was accusing me of being judgmental and “strict” because I don’t believe Christians should vote.
Why shouldn’t we vote you ask?
Because this world is not our home. We are all half-citizens. Our other citizenship belongs to God’s heavenly kingdom. We make no allegiance to this world (At least we shouldn’t).
We are on this earth only for a short while and we should feel as settled in this world as we would feel if we were traveling in Mongolia. It may be a fascinating place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to sink down roots there.
Our sense of identity should not be derived from this world, but from our relationship to God and His people, bound for heaven.
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;”
1 Peter 2:11 KJV
“Bible exposition without moral application raises no opposition. It is only when the hearer is made to understand that truth is in conflict with his heart, that resistance sets in. As long as people can hear orthodoxy divorced from life, they will attend and support churches and institutions without objection. On the other other hand, the man who preaches truth and applies it to the lives of his hearers, will feel the nails and the thorns. He will lead a hard life, but a glorious one.” -A.W. Tozer
